Lessons of 2023
What a year - one of my hardest to date but I have learnt so much more than I could ever put into a caption but here are 13 of my thoughts that I will be carrying through 2024
- You never have it figured out, go with it. It’ll be reet - even when it doesn’t feel like it especially when it doesn’t feel like it
- The only person you can truly count on to have your own best interests at heart is yourself. Quit pushing down your intuition, not listening to your wants or needs and choosing to second guess each and every decision. Think of the person you were when you were 6, that little person who could have never guessed where your life is right now and think of how proud they would be for what you have achieved. Do it for them if you cannot do it yourself.
- Family isnt always blood (though I wouldn’t be here without my aunt and Grandma so I am forever grateful) - family are the people you choose. The people that help share the load when the world is all too heavy for your shoulders. That help shape you back to someone you recognise after all you know has changed.
- Overwhelm is not over kill - it’s okay to be anxious and not want to do what you “need” to do, but please know - it’s not the end of the world if it takes a day longer than expected.
- Invisible string theory is a thing - those who are meant to be in your life will be. Whether it’s now or 10 years from now, there’s a purpose for it all.
- Your friends don’t care that your house is a mess when they come to see you. True friends will help you clean it up, sit in silence and help you fill your cup with little more than a silent sit in a fairy-light filled room.
- Step out from behind your phone - the core memories will remind even if you don’t get the perfect picture to post on social media
- Learn to be content. With silence, with company, with peace, with nothing and with everything. You cant have/do/be more of you don’t appreciate where you are right now.
- You don’t have to decide what you want to do right now - life goes on and you will progress regardless
Finally, Be easier on yourself. You don’t have to have everything in place all at once. “Rome wasn’t built in a day” and your life so far is a fraction of what it is going to be. Hold out - the best is yet to come
